GAMFT is dedicated to promoting the professional interests of MFT’s, representing MFT interests to the public and before government bodies, establishing and maintaining professional standards, and furthering the MFT profession.

Advocacy

GAMFT advocates with the Georgia Assembly on behalf of Marriage and Family Therapists and in cooperation with other mental health professionals. GAMFT tracks all legislation in the state assembly that may beneficially or adversely impact the practice of the MFT profession in Georgia.

Professional and Legal Consultation

GAMFT staff helps with answers to questions of concern to MFT’s regarding legal, ethical and licensure issues. Free legal consultation with AAMFT’s in-house attorneys who are specialists in the field of mental health law and ethics as they pertain to the MFT profession, 4 times per year.

Networking Opportunities

At GAMFT events and online, members have the opportunity to connect with colleagues and supervisors, to find and expand opportunities, catch up on the latest professional news, or make new professional friends and acquaintances.

Practice marketing on Therapist Locator is available for clinical fellows of GAMFT at no charge. Individuals, couples and families seeking professional assistance can find a highly qualified and conveniently located GAMFT member on Therapist Locator.

National professional insurance leader, CPH and Associates, offers GAMFT members comprehensive liability insurance at competitive members-only annual rates, with sizeable discounts available to students and newly-licensed MFT’s.

Community and Continuing Education at Chapter Meetings

Through its network of eleven state chapters GAMFT offers workshops that ensure the fulfillment of the required continuing education requirements toward licensure or renewal of licensure. CEU’s are also available at GAMFT’s spring and winter conferences.

Paid Subscription to Professional Publications

GAMFT members receive free annual subscriptions to professional publications published by AAMFT: The Journal of Marital and Family Therapy and Family Therapy Magazine.

GAMFT maintains online information available every day, 24 hours a day. This information is updated often and can answer most questions even after office hours and on weekends.

Scholarships

Special scholarships such as the Christus Powell Fellowship are offered by GAMFT on a yearly basis. Membership in GAMFT is a pre-requisite for eligibility to receive this and other scholarships.
